About 5 years ago I had my Gall bladder removed d/t a benign growth in It.
3 months after surgery developed full blown IBS.
I could only eat 4 things: ๐๐๐ and one form of lentil.
I had diarrhea up to 5x a day, mind you I used to be constipated. Severe bloating, Abdominal pains that had be bent over in pain. My stress was at a 15/10
.
I never had Food sensitivities before surgery. So what happenedโ๏ธ
.
Was this a side effect of surgery? My Gastroenterologist said no Threw a sample pack of probiotics and referred me to a dietitian to follow a LOW FODMAP diet- that didnโt work for me.
Had an endoscopy, colonoscopy, and Barium X-ray to confirm IBS.
.
๐ขWhat is IBS?
A Gut disorder where abdominal pains presents w a change in bowels. Generally diagnosed AFTER other gut disorders such as celiac, crohnโs, etc are ruled out.
.
๐ขWhat causes IBS?
- A SHIFT IN๐ฆ GUT BACTERIA- if youโve had antibiotics (Which I did in surgery) it kills off your good bacteria in your Gut.
.
Newer recommendations state adding a probiotic with antibiotics.
.
These critters help you digest your food, talk to your guts immune system, play a part in hormone regulation and much more.
.
-๐ขTypically, we see a person present with a HISTORY of GALLBLADDER REMOVAL, antibiotic use, food poisoning, severe stress (no kidding ๐คชI had ยพ)
.
Your Gallbladder stores bile- used to break down fat but also a โฃANTI-MICROBIAL agent.
.
BILE helps kill any opportunistic or bad bacteria from overgrowing.
.
We have 3 kinds of bacteria:
1๏ธโฃGood bacteria
2๏ธโฃ Opportunistic bacteria- sort of like double agents waiting to wage war, what keeps them at bay are optimal levels of our good bacteria.
3๏ธโฃ Bad bacteria- cause food poisoning and infections
.
The antibiotics wiped my good bacteria out โ my stool test run years later shows VERY LOW amounts of good bacteria, yes there is a test for this.
.
My bile production was diminished, and stress was through the roof.
.
For those of you who havenโt had their GBโs removed, or antibiotics. You maybe wondering How does stress affect the GUT POPULATION?
.
Story continues in the next post along with how I healed my IBS
